Book Review

Photographs and Phantoms by Cindy Spencer Pape is a 'Steampunk' novella. I have never been interested in that genre, though I love technology. This story weaves the technology of the era with the supernatural (mages, mediums). It was such a fun read.

The story is set in Brighton, England in 1855. The Lord Kendall Lake (member of the Knights of the Round table - supernatural table) has been dispatched on a query to assist the niece of a fellow Lord. Amy, a photographer, has seen serpents (smudges) on her photographic stills. After the pictures have been taken, her clients have ended up dead. After a child passed away, she enlisted the help of her estranged great uncle for assistance.

The story is fun and fast paced and filled with unique characters. I almost fell off of the treadmill while reading, then laughed out loud at the predicament of the stories hero/heroine.
